Through times of uncertainty, the house is often seen as a symbol of safety. As people isolate and social distance, coexistence is a necessary side effect. As days go on, the house begins to feel claustrophobic and more and more removed from the outside world. As one loses their safety net, feelings of unease, disappointment, and regret arise.
My images investigate the domestic space during an unpredictable time. Photographing in this space provides an aspect of familiarity for the viewer. I often photograph from a distance to create tension between the subjects and the space they inhabit. By including myself in the images, I acknowledge the times in which I feel lost in the space and reference my own experiences.
Through my work, I bring about a feeling of unease that can come about in these times of uncertainty. The strong structure of the house may seem safe, however, the interior space displays heartbreak, unease, and desperation.
